The firelight is a piece of equipment in Phasmophobia. It is a deployable light source that can be lit using a source of fire such as an igniter or another firelight. It can be used to continuously light up a room with a warm, orange glow, and mitigate sanity drain from darkness, until it eventually burns out.
Ghosts tend to blow out nearby firelights, making them effective at checking if a ghost is nearby.
Usage[]
Lighting firelights[]
Players can light a firelight held in their hand by pressing Primary Use if they have an igniter in their inventory. A firelight placed down can be lit while holding an igniter and pressing Secondary Use. One can also hold a lit firelight, aim at an unlit firelight, and use the Secondary Use key.
An unorthodox way is to have the wick of one lit and one unlit firelight to collide (this may need velocity).
Placement[]
Firelights can be placed down on surfaces. Holding the placement key will show a translucent highlight of the firelight. This will place the firelight upright relative to the surface. Firelights can topple/fall over when placed on a slope or vertically.
Function[]
Ghosts will occasionally blow out a firelight that is within 5 metres[1][2] of it. The fire will be extinguished with a blowing "sigh" effect. A firelight will also extinguish by itself at the end of its duration which depends on its tier level. Tier I and Tier II firelights will produce smoke when blown by the ghost or self-extinguishing.
Ghosts can blow out firelights at any time, even during hunts, but there is a 20-second cooldown on the ghost blowing each firelight (or any individual flammable item). In other words, any ghost can blow three different firelights out at once, but not the same firelight twice under 20 seconds. The Onryo can bypass this cooldown due to its ability.
Every third firelight that an Onryo blows out will cause it to attempt to initiate a hunt, regardless of sanity; the frequency of it blowing out firelights increases for every dead player. Having firelights nearby also act as crucifixes, being blown out instead of the Onryo hunting.
Throwing a lit firelight/one falling with sufficient velocity (Tiers I and II only), placing it in the inventory, leaving it out in heavy rain (Tiers I and II only), or pressing Primary Use while held in hand will cause it to extinguish.
When a player is within 2 metres of a lit firelight, it will slow passive sanity drain that results from being in the dark, at a rate depending on the firelight's tier level. Lit firelights do not affect sanity drain from other sources such as ghost events or other players dying.
Despite being multiple candles, the Tier II firelight counts as a single flame for all purposes.
Tips[]
- Placing firelights on the sides of tables, shelves, or other elevated objects may improve their lighting by covering a wider area.
- In larger maps like Brownstone High School or Sunny Meadows Mental Institution, firelights may be helpful as navigation markers for important areas such as the fuse box, ghost room, or exit door(s), also providing some helpful sanity drain reduction as a bonus, though they are not as reliable as spare UV lights or flashlights, as firelights both burn out after a time (except for tier III) and can be blown out by the ghost.
- As non-electronics, firelights are less affected by hunts (other than potentially being blown out), neither do they attract the ghost. Players may use firelights as constant light sources to navigate during hunts. A potential but generally trivial downside is that it removes a source of alert as to whether the ghost is hunting (or performing ghost events).

Trivia[]
- Showers and sinks filled with water do not extinguish firelights.
- Some maps contain other fire sources such as candles, campfires, or fireplaces, that players can light up similarly to firelights. But contrary to the latter, these sources cannot be picked up, cannot self-extinguish, and have no effect on sanity drain. Additionally, ghosts can also light these up.
