The Head Gear is a type of equipment in Phasmophobia. Its specific function varies based on its equipment tier, though generally it improves the ability to investigate without a Flashlight.
Usage[]
Picking up a head gear will put it on the player's head. The head gear can be toggled on or off by holding the Special key for a couple of seconds. It can be placed back at any time. Worn Head Gear does not take up an inventory slot. The camera's display moves relative to the direction that the player's model is facing.
Activated Head Gear will attract the ghost during hunts, similar to other electronic equipment.
Mechanics[]
Tier I[]
Tier I Head Gear is the Head Mounted Camera. When activated, it functionally serves as a portable Video Camera, and can be used to help teams track each other and to see Ghost Orbs. Although useless when playing alone, they can be handy in a team with an observer in the Truck.
Like with regular video cameras, Head Mounted Cameras can switch between visual and night-vision modes at the Computer, and can be used to detect Ghost Orbs when in night vision mode. They are also handy for monitoring players who have to be alone to get ghost responses, such as when using a Spirit Box, and are very useful for guiding players around larger maps, especially in the dark, since the player in the truck can see with night vision mode even if all the lights in the location are out, as well as having access to the Site Map.
When the player equips the Tier I Head Gear, the player can see a big box-like object above the field of view. If it is activated, a red indicator light will start to blink.
Tier II[]
Tier II Head Gear is the Head Lamp. When activated, it provides a light source emanating from the player's head, with comparable power and illumination to the Tier I Flashlight.
The Tier II Head Gear is not visible in the player's field of view unless the player starts to sprint. Even while sprinting, the player can hardly see a part of it.
Tier III[]
Tier III Head Gear is the Night Vision Goggles. When activated, it brightens visibility substantially, painting the player's view light green and allowing them to see in the dark, at the expense of added film grain, lowered render scale, and a slight fish-eye effect, altogether reducing the player's ability to see as far as they could have, and clearly.
The display through Tier III Head Gear is a filter through normal vision, rather than a proper separate display as seen in a Video Camera in night-vision mode; an active UV Light will project a definite purple light, when through the video camera's night vision it would be white like from a (visible light spectrum) Flashlight, and Ghost Orbs cannot be seen through just the view provided by the goggles.
The Tier III Head Gear filters out red lights. This makes EMF Level 5 on a Tier II EMF Reader appear identical to EMF 4, or the Spirit Box's red lights to not be visible.
When the player equips the Tier III Head Gear, the player can see a big goggle-like object above the field of view.
Trivia[]
- The Tier I Head Gear appears to be closely modeled on a GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition.
- The Tier III Head Gear is likely modeled after the real life Sightmark SM15070 "Ghost Hunter" Night Vision Goggles.
