An igniter is an item used to light incense, firelights, summoning circles, and fire sources. It emits a small amount of light when activated and held by the player.
Usage[]
An igniter can be used either when held or when in the inventory. The igniter can be lit by pressing the Primary Use key while holding it. Incense, fire sources and regular firelights can then be lit by aiming at the item and pressing the Secondary Use key. Alternatively, if the igniter is offhand in the inventory, incense or firelight being held on-hand can be lit directly with Primary Use. The igniter does not have to be lit prior in this case, as it will automatically turn off when placed offhand.
Igniters take up their own special slot in the inventory, allowing for three other items to be carried with them.
Igniters have a limited amount of usable time, depending on their tier:
- Tier I: 10 matches per box with 10 seconds per match, for a total of 100 seconds (1 minute 40 seconds)
- Tier II: 5 minutes
- Tier III: 10 minutes
Additionally, lighting a held incense or firelight while the igniter is offhand in the inventory will instantly deduct 1 match for the Tier I and 15 seconds of the total fuel for the Tiers II and III.
Active Tier I and Tier II igniters are affected by Heavy Rain, and will be extinguished automatically when taken outside and cannot be ignited in that weather, except in places that are covered from the rain (e.g. under porch roofs, inside tents). However, they can still light held incense and Tier III firelights up if they are in the inventory, even while fully outside.
When an igniter is lit for the first time, contrary to other fire sources, it will not have the 30-second cooldown before the ghost can attempt to blow it out but a cooldown with a random duration between 20 and 80 seconds as with subsequent lightings (this might be a bug). The Onryo is the only ghost that can bypass this cooldown due to its hunt prevention mechanics.
Ghosts cannot light igniters and have a 66.67% (2/3) chance to blow out a lit igniter provided they are within 5 meters and the cooldown is over.
Tier I and II igniters are consumable, and will have to be repurchased after use.
Tips[]
- While using tier I igniters, it is quicker to pick up, light and place firelights than to wait for the match-striking animation.
Trivia[]
- The igniter is the cheapest item in the game, costing $10.
- Tier I matches may be extinguished by the ghost, however, they will still appear to be lit.
- In Point Hope and Bleasdale Farmhouse, a usable Tier I igniter containing a single matchstick spawns in one of the rooms.
