„A young family recently moved into this long-dormant lighthouse, but it was already home to something else.”
Point Hope is a small map in Phasmophobia. It is a ten-story lighthouse, totaling sixteen rooms. It has a cramped, narrow, linear environment, with spiral staircases and circular rooms, providing a unique challenge to investigators, as sole avenues of escape can be cut off by a wandering Ghost.
Structure[]
Point Hope consists of an extended ground floor underneath an additional nine, roughly evenly-sized rooms that each count as a separate floor. It has two bathrooms, one smaller one on the first floor and a much larger one that dominates the fifth floor, and two bedrooms, a master bedroom on the sixth floor and a child's bedroom directly above on the seventh floor. The top floor opens out to a balcony that overlooks the surrounding environment.
Layout tips[]
- Point Hope is defined by its very linear structure: there is only ever one route to getting to a different area of the map.
- Due to it being a small map and the long, winding staircases used to move between floors, sanity will drain very rapidly while moving through the location in the dark, especially as the lights for each floor are usually located on the top side of the stairs that lead up to them.
- Extensive use of firelights, and keeping on the hallway lights of floors on the way to points of interest such as the Ghost Room and Fuse Box (or, in the case of a ghost located towards the top of the building, about seven or eight, in order to leave margin for a light source to be turned on, either accidentally by a player or by the ghost, without tripping the breaker), is strongly advised to help preserve sanity.
- This is even more pronounced when the favourite room is located towards the top of the map, as there are no shortcuts to reach them quicker, forcing a long run to and from them.
- The circular Balcony on the top floor has two doors that lead out to it, but the door that has a view of the sea below has a much shorter path to the stairwell that heads back down to Lantern Room Bottom.
- These rooms cannot be chosen as the favourite room:
- Bathroom Hallway
- Master Bedroom Hallway
- Child Bedroom Hallway
- Balcony
Key hiding spots and strategies[]
There are 11 "sanctioned" hiding spots on Point Hope:
- Entry Bathroom, in the shower
- Entry Hallway, closet near the exit door
- Living Room, small lighthouse tent
- Living Room, closet near the living room entrance
- Living Room, behind the opened crate below the stairs
- Kitchen, behind the cardboard next to the washer
- Dining Room, behind the boxes below the stairs
- Master Bedroom, behind the room divider
- Child Bedroom, closet
- Maintenance Room, lockers
- Lantern Room Bottom, behind the boxes near the stairs
Depending on difficulty and settings, a portion or all of the hiding spots mentioned may be unavailable, either blocked by props, the door to the hiding spot being locked, or missing their concealing elements:
- Amateur: None
- Intermediate: 3
- Professional: 4
- Nightmare/Insanity: 6
- 3-player game: +1 available hiding spot
- 4-player game: +2 available hiding spots
Additional hiding spots on multiplayer is overridden when "Number of hiding places" is set to None
During a hunt, moving between floors can be very dangerous, especially if the location of the ghost room isn't known, both due to the map's linear structure and because the ghost's vocalizations will be muffled when it's on different floors. It is best to make note of which floors have available hiding spots, and which ones can be moved to without having to pass through where the ghost is likely to be on the way there. However, due to the lack of sight lines up and down the stairwells, escaping the ghost during a chase is quite feasible, as line of sight can be quickly broken simply by heading up or down a flight of stairs.
Some floors feature a large, solid pillar at the center of them, which can be circled around and used to loop the ghost. These are best used to regenerate stamina and break line of sight to facilitate running up or down stairs.
While the first floor has by far the highest density of hiding spots among all floors on the map (just under half of the map's hiding spots are located either in the living room or the entrance rooms), hiding on that floor can be risky, especially if the ghost is also on the ground floor. Likely due to a bug, ghosts can and will enter the hiding spots unprovoked (both during and outside of hunts) - it is advised for players to have incense ready if the ghost is roaming around a lot nearby.
Bone locations[]
Bones spawn randomly, but will only spawn in areas that a ghost can also walk on.
- Examples
Cursed possession locations[]
Fuse box locations[]
There are four locations where the Fuse Box can spawn. These are encountered along the path ascending/descending Point Hope's height:
- In the Living Room, opposite the closet hiding spot in the entrance hall. The hallway door may obscure it if it is opened all the way.
- In the Kitchen, between the window and the stairs to the next floor.
- In the Games Room, to the side of the window at the end of the stairwell from the Dining Room.
- In the Master Bedroom Hallway, next to the hall light switch.
Tips[]
- The guiderails on staircases will break line of sight if the player moves between floors and crouches.
- A single match in a box can be found in the Games Room on the fireplace.
Easter Egg: Ferryman of the Drowned[]
Point Hope contains a riddle/easter egg that gives a special badge when solved.
In order to solve the riddle, the player will need at least one working UV light ready. The riddle can be completed even with a reward multiplier of 0.
First, the player needs to throw three different balls in the pool table in the Games Room in any of the holes in a certain order indicated by the sea shell paintings near the stairs. The order is the following: green ball, blue ball, and light red ball (found next to a dark red one). After the balls have been holed in, the key to the lantern cabinet will drop at the ball exit.
The lantern cabinet in Lantern Room Bottom can now be unlocked. However, a cogwheel is missing inside. The latter can be found in the Maintenance Room which is the room below and the player can find it leaning against a shelf to the right of the lockers. The player needs to pick it up and place it into the cabinet.
Once the cogwheel has been inserted, the lighthouse's lantern will now blink periodically instead of having a continuous lighting. The player now needs to ring the large bell next to the entrance three times which will make a fire-like noise in the distance of the map.
The player must now head back to the very top of the lighthouse, go to the balcony, and look towards the island where a cave entrance with the letters "UV" will be visible with a bright fire.
Finally, the player will have to shine the UV light against the large lantern until the lantern's light turns purple. In multiplayer, every person who wants the badge will need to do this.
After that, the player just has to leave through the truck. The "Ferryman of the Drowned" badge will be awarded on the rewards screen.
Trivia[]
- This map has been teased throughout the development of the game. Many hints included newspapers in the truck referencing to three keepers who disappeared, a lighthouse being added to Maple Lodge Campsite in 0.6.0, runes added in 0.8.1.0 teasing the name "Point Hope" when deciphered, and a map added in 0.9.1.0 on the wall in Maple Lodge Campsite's reception building designating the lighthouse as being the "Point Hope Lighthouse". The map was unintentionally confirmed on the 10th of December 2023, when the weekly task "Complete Objectives on [Map Name]" required it to be done on Point Hope. On the 3rd of January 2024, a development preview was released, officially revealing Point Hope as well as providing two screenshots of the interior.[1]
- Two Blåhaj plushies can be found in the Child Bedroom.
- From left to right, the maritime signal flags in the Child Bedroom spell out "GET OUT".
- The commemorative plaque at the front door states that the lighthouse was constructed in the "Province of Massachusetts"[2] in 1802, making Point Hope the first map to be connected to a tangible, real-world location.
