„A Revenant is a violent ghost that will attack indiscriminately. Their speed can be deceiving, as they are slow while dormant; however, as soon as they hunt they can move incredibly fast.”
The Revenant is a type of ghost in Phasmophobia. It is infamous and widely regarded as among the most dangerous ghosts in the game, due its ability to rapidly catch up to players during a hunt.
Behaviour[]
Hunt[]
Revenants have very noticeable speed change between roaming and chasing modes. When a Revenant is roaming, it will move at 1 m/s. However, as soon as it detects a player (either visually or through speech/electronics), it will begin to move at 3 m/s (nearly twice the base speed of most other ghosts) and sustains this speed until it reaches the spot where it last detected a player. If and when reverting to roaming mode, the Revenant's speed will slowly decrease over ~2.7 seconds (deceleration rate of 0.75 m/s²) back to its initial value of 1 m/s.
Contrary to most other ghosts, the Revenant will not speed up with continuous line-of-sight.
Evidence[]
Strengths and weaknesses[]
These are the strengths and weaknesses as listed in the journal:
Strength: A Revenant will travel at a significantly faster speed when hunting their prey.
Weakness: Hiding from the Revenant will cause it to move very slowly.
Strategy[]
Due to the Revenant's power, it is critical to hide as soon as possible and the player must exercise extreme caution as to not give away their position during a hunt. A player will not be able to outrun a Revenant for long before it catches up to them. If you are caught running from a Revenant, items such as tier III Salt or Incense can slow it/ward it off for a few seconds, giving you enough time to create some distance between you and the ghost to hide from it. Tier III Sanity Medication is also a possibility, with the infinite sprint allowing you to match the Revenant's speed for 10 seconds to potentially run to safety.
Identification[]
While hiding, listen for the ghost's footsteps; if the footsteps are relatively few and far between while the ghost is nearby, then it is most likely a Revenant. Alternatively, if the player already has some sort of escape plan ready, simply letting the ghost detect the player and seeing if it gets a sudden, extremely significant speed boost is a simple way to figure out if it's a Revenant or not - just be mindful of confusing it for a Jinn, which will also speed up suddenly when it sees a player (though a Jinn and Revenant should be easy to distinguish from their roaming speeds).
Trivia[]
- The word "Revenant" comes from French, originally formed from the verb revenir ("to return").
- According to folklore, a Revenant is a corpse that has been revived from the dead to haunt the living. They originate across many regions and religions, including Old Irish Celtic and Norse mythology.
- Many use the term "Revenant" interchangeably for "ghost" or "undead".[1]
- The Revenant is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous ghosts in the game, quite apart from its behaviour before 0.8.0 where it would only speed up when having a player in line-of-sight making them extremely easy to escape from by breaking line-of-sight, rather than speeding up to the player's last known location as well.
History[]
Early Access Alpha | |
---|---|
7 March 2020 | Added Revenant. |
13 March 2020 | Revenant now requires Fingerprints instead of Bug as one of its evidences. |
Early Access | |
0.3.0 | Prior to 0.3.0, the evidence was EMF Level 5, Fingerprints, and Ghost Writing. |
0.8.0 | Revenants now gain speed boost simply by detecting a player. |
Revenants now sustain their chasing speed until they reach the last known player location. | |
Speed will now decrease at a rate of 0.75 m/s² after losing player instead of instantly. |
